Are Migas More Important Than Kids?

The controversy over Las Manitas’s $750,000 relocation loan will not be replayed in the case of Escuelita del Alma, the daycare center right next door, which has secured a Small Business Administration loan to move to a new $2 million facility.

The Las Manitas loan will be eligible for forgiveness five years after the iconic restaurant moves up the block to make room for two high-rise hotels, so councilmember Brewster McCracken can continue to order his migas. No word yet on whether Paul Higers, the city’s small business loan manager who has been critical of the Las Manitas loan, will be able to get his kids into the new Escuelita.
