Rose-bug

State Rep. Patrick Rose has already been under fire from many fellow Democrats for making nice with House Republicans, especially embattled Speaker Tom Craddick.  He has since professed his loyalty to his party’s caucus, though rumors abound of a last minute reconciliation attempt with Craddick.

He didn’t help himself last week when the September fundraiser invitations he sent out had no Union Bug on them.  This is a real no-no in Democratic circles, especially primaries.

Was it a rookie mistake or an intentional signal?  Depends on who you ask.  One thing is clear, though:  When a Democrat goes to a non-union shop to print his campaign materials, he’s probably going to save a few bucks, but someones going to be bugged.

  2. I bet there is no union shop in his district. I think he prefers to stay local than union.

  3. There are no union shops in most districts, but good Democrats manage to find them anyway. There are several right up the road in Austin, for example.

  5. I still think small town voters want their neighbor to get the job more than an Austin outfit. You guys that live in Austin probably cannot fathom a world outside of Travis County - but it does exist. I think Rose has made some bad votes and some worse decisions, but the union shop line is probably the weakest attack I have heard on him,

  6. I agree that the union bug isn’t the real problem. The real problem is that Rose spends to much time with his nose planted in the seat of Tom Craddick’s trousers to be an real Democrat. I’d give 2 to 1 odds that if he actually gets re-elected he votes for Craddick again. I also hear from politico friends of mine in San Marcos that they think he cares more about his contributors than his constituents. One of them said that they’re having bumper stickers made that say “ROSE BLOWS.”
