Ain’t Got A Home
Word circulated before Labor Day that Rick Perry and his family would soon move out of the Governor’s Mansion, and at least 61 percent of Texans quietly applauded. But wait! Turns out the arrangement is only temporary while taxpayers who can’t afford to update their own homes fund a $10 million remodeling job for the state’s first family.
Not that Perry couldn’t pay for the new plumbing out of his own campaign coffers. The lame duck chief executive continues to raise money from the Texas lobby as if he were in full campaign mode. This week, he brought in a reported $500,000 during an event at Austin’s Four Seasons. He has four more scheduled for other major cities around the state before the end of the year.
It’s good to be Governor. Even if you don’t have a place to sleep.
Maybe the Perrys are just trying to get the mansion ready for its next potential occupant: Margaret Spellings!!? The Education Secretary is whispering about a gubernatorial bid in 2010, according to the blog, Eduwonk. She and her husband, lobbyist Robert Spellings, would no doubt appreciate a fresh coat of paint on their new digs.

This must be part of their “No Bushie Left Behind” program. Will she run against Don Evans?
