Coloring Inside the Lines
The Statesman ran an interesting story today about SMDs, timelines, maps and minorities.
Sarah Coppola seemed to ring the death knell for the idea since only 14 people showed up to the last meeting. CM Martinez says to wait till they draw a map and folks will start coming out of the woodwork to show they care. Gus Garcia plans on bringing the show on the road too.
The article also highlighted one of the potential benefits of a new way: Accountability.
Yeah, that word in the same sentence as city council seems a bit far fetched to us right now too. Can you imagine if they tried to build a WalMart and Northcross had their own rep?
The next meeting of the charter review committee is scheduled for 5 p.m. this Wednesday, September 26, at City Hall, which is located at 301 West Second Street.

Just because only 14 people showed up doesn’t mean only 14 people are interested and paying attention. Most of us simply have a whole lot of other things going on and can’t attend every meeting we should or would like to.

What would happen if Northcross had “their own rep” is the same thing that happened with at-large, because the zoning law was very clear in what it did and didn’t allow there.
