More Despair For San Diego?

Fire
A nightmarish inferno, families who have lost everything, and now this: the Austin City Council isn’t coming.

Will Wynn, Lee Leffingwell, Mike Martinez, Sheryl Cole, and more than 100 other Austin chamber types were scheduled to leave this weekend for America’s Finest City. Jennifer Kim reportedly had already decided not to make the trip. The others are now rethinking their plans, too.

Infact Daily
is reporting that former fireman Mike Martinez still wanted to go, but the others bailed. He will decide on Sunday.

We think he might actually have something to contribute out there, but one has to wonder if this is the best time for a junket.

  2. Just to clarify

My comment had nothing to do with “wanting to still go” to San Diego.

My point was this….the we do not loose a penny more or gain a penny more in tax payer dollars if we wait until Saturday to decide. I absolutely don’t want to go out there if they are in a crisis mode and needing to direct their attention to those pressing needs.

But we also need to be mindful of the tax payer dollars that we will loose ($1200) if we decide not to go. Not to mention all of the hard work that so many folks here in Austin and San Diego put into planning this trip.

Again, waiting til Saturday to make a final decision is what I believe is the best option at this point.

My comment about the fires related to the knowledge we could gain from their area…AFTER…this event has passed and we can sit down with them to help improve our preparedness capabilites for what I believe WILL happen one day here in Austin.

    Thanks,
    Mike

  3. Thanks for clarifying that Council Member. Let us know what you decide!

  4. I didn’t see Brewster McCracken mentioned as one of the possible junketeers. When he and Jennifer Kim are the ones showing the best common sense, you know we have all entered a parallel universe.

  5. McCracken DID go to San Diego. Kim and Leffingwell chose to not go.
