Mayors Say The Darndest Things

In and of itself, this story from the Sunday edition of Da Man, isn’t much to write home about. Heck, normally the thought of Will Wynn in a cheerleader outfit would make us too sick to continue one wouldn’t even make it all the way to the bottom of this story before turning the page and having another bite of your breakfast taco.

But, the holiday weekend has made us fat and lazy. Too lazy to turn the page perhaps.

It was Will Wynn’s last word that woke us from our tryptophan slumber:

“Our dynamics are such that it is easier to perhaps be more effective or have more of an impact away from home than at home.”

Really? That explains a lot!

Wynn has a knack for knowing the right thing to say. We dug up this gem from August:

“I feel like Napoleon bulldozing medieval Paris. We have seven tower cranes up right now.”

Watch out Egypt!

There have got to be more of these out there and we have neither the time nor the inclination to read back issues of Da Man, it was painful enough the first time.

So, send in your favorites quotes from our beloved leader. Or just paste them below as comments.

Best one gets a T-Shirt if we ever get around to making any. And believe us, when we do they will be really clever!

  2. Paraphrased from the ‘06 campaign when asked about affordable housing downtown: “Living downtown is affordable when you consider that you can get rid of one of your $500 car payments.” So, all those who make below 80% MFI have to do is trade in their BMW for the bus and they can live downtown!

  3. This is my new favorite:
“I spewed a fog of profanity that is still floating down Shoal Creek someplace.”

  4. Not that outlandish if you give him a bit of the benefit of the doubt, Kedron. $300 car payment, $100 gas, $100 insurance+maintenance = $500/month you can save on a car.

My Prius payment is $375, and that sure ain’t no BMW.

  8. point taken, but I don’t think < 80% MFI families could afford a Prius either, let alone two of them. I prefer to be honest about things and say that there is no way to get affordable housing downtown, but we can use bribes^H^H^H^H^H^H density bonuses from condo builders to pay for more housing elsewhere. Regarding the quotes, with that incident last year in which the Mayor had to throw a man out of his house and this year’s incident with the traffic delay, it sounds like Austinites have dibs on the quote “Our Mayor can beat up your Mayor!” Let it replace “Keep Austin < >” and “Live music capital” in our canon.
