Daugherty Has Two Opponents, Leffingwell Has None

‘Tis the season to file for public office, and challengers to curmudgeonly Gerald Daughtery, the lone Republican on the Travis County Commissioners Court, are apparently feeling festive. Veteran GOP activist Karen Huber is running — as a Democrat. Toll-road opponent Albert Gonzales, a Democrat, is running in his own party.

At City Hall, lackluster Lee Leffingwell is still unchallenged in his 2008 re-election race for the Austin City Council, although RG4N leader Jason Meeker is expected to jump in, maybe as early as this week.

Leffingwell has also announced that he will run for Mayor in 2009. At this early stage, a list of people who do not plan to challenge him would be shorter than a list of his potential opponents.

  2. I’ve not heard or read anywhere that Lee Leffingwell has announced that he will run for mayor in 2009, even though it seems plain that he’s considering it - can you show any source that verifies your report that he announced his candidacy? Or, did you just make it up? Thanks.

  3. Will the candidates running for election or re-election pledge to fill out their entire terms and not run for another office?

  5. Hmm, this sure has the feel of a closet Brewster booster. The anti-Leffingwell bidness so prevalent here is meaningless until there’s a little more transparency here, APR.

  6. Eventually, the names behind APR will come out. I really hope for Brew’s sake it isn’t anyone affiliated with his campaign(s) - past, present, or future.

If it is Brew’s people, I would be surprised if he knows about it. Brew is goofy, but not stupid.

APR has good buzz. I am not sure why it is playing it this way.

  7. APR - The Chronicle story you reference as your source obviously doesn’t say anywhere that Leffingwell has announced his candidacy for mayor in 2009, as you “reported.” I agree with others that your blog seems to be so agenda-driven of late that your anonymity is of concern. So, what’s the reason for the veil of secrecy, again?

  8. I am not saying I don’t like the blog. I have it book marked. I check it often - along with a dozen other local and national sites, but I know who is behind everyone of those sites. Your information and analysis would be better recvd if it were not anonymous.

  9. The slant in this site is clearly not for Brewster (who is not real popular with the paleoliberal brigade that seems to run it). If any candidate or potential candidate is behind it, I’d vote for one of our friends at RG4N.

  10. Ryan Clinton has been approached by insiders to run against either Leffingwell or Kim. Ryan was in the news a great deal over the animal shelter debate and would have to be taken seriously. He has a public policy degree from Duke and a law degree from a top-10 law school, so his academic credentials won’t be beat. Also, Texas Monthly has four times named him one of the best attorneys in Texas under 40. I hear Ryan will make a decision soon.
