Looks like we will get to find out soon enough.

  2. Something tells me that Meeker won’t be getting the MVP award of the 2008 election cycle.

  3. Meeker and his team will win more votes for Leffingwell than Leffingwell could ever win for himself.

  4. If you mean will Jason Meeker come from behind and win BIG….then yeah, he could be the next Eli Manning. And why not? Our city council needs an infusion of vision and leadership. Leffingwell’s easy ride is about to be over.

  5. Meeker is an idiot - a dangerous idiot - who cannot be allowed anywhere near the levers of power. Had we done what he preferred, we’d be paying out a judgement to Lincoln right now, and probably dealing with a dozen more lawsuits from developers whose site plans were administratively rejected, since the Lincoln precedent he would have set would have shown that the city doesn’t care to enforce its own code.

If anybody could make me like Leffingwell, even despite his vote on Thursday on the irresponsible VMU opt-outs attempted by Judges’ Hill, Meeker is the guy to do it.

  6. I hope Meeker runs a good race. Good for him for jumping into the fray. But here is a clear example of why so few good people do. With predictable regularity, Mike Dahmus demonstrates his peerless ability to hate people and throw insults, rather than debate issues. A simple Google search will find that he has an unquenched vendetta against damn near everything. Government should be of the people, by the people, and for the people. Not just for the developers, and for their lobbyists, or for their favorite lonely, hateful, and bile-filled blogger. No wonder he was summarily removed from a city commission in 2005 and has been pissed at the whole world (except Hawaii) ever since.

  7. Be sure to give anonymous cowards like “my neighbor” all the attention they deserve.

Here’s what I wrote about the UTC at the time:

It had to be done; and it was worth it.

  8. Thank heavens the people in Austin will finally have a voice in city government!
Jason has vision, intelligence, and WISDOM.
Leffingwell is TOTALLY out of touch with the needs of the citizens of Austin, as he has demonstrated on several occasions.
